Few Cape adventures are as beloved as the Shining Sea Bikeway. Stretching 10.7 miles from North Falmouth to Woods Hole, this paved, mostly flat path winds through some of Falmouth’s prettiest scenery - woodlands, cranberry bogs, salt marsh, quiet ponds, ocean views, and that unforgettable stretch along Vineyard Sound. It’s an easy ride for most ages and abilities, which is part of what makes it such a favorite for bikers, walkers, runners, families, and anyone looking for a little fresh-air Cape magic.

A good place to begin is the large parking lot at the northern trailhead on County Road in North Falmouth. There are also parking areas along the way, including Old Dock Road, Depot Avenue in Falmouth, Locust Street, Woods Hole Road, and Oyster Pond Road.

From North Falmouth, the ride unfolds beautifully: shaded stretches, open marsh views, glimpses of Buzzards Bay, and then, as you get closer to Woods Hole, that classic Cape feeling of salt air and sea. For many riders, Woods Hole is the perfect turnaround spot - a chance to lock up the bikes, wander the village, and grab a coffee, lunch, or a sweet treat before heading back. Some fun and colorful sights along the way...

And this year, there’s even more reason to celebrate. The Shining Sea Bikeway is marking its 50th anniversary in 2026, with Falmouth proclaiming April 25 as Shining Sea Bikeway Day to help kick off the celebrations. What began as a community effort has become one of Cape Cod’s true treasures - a path that connects villages, views, history, and generations of Cape lovers.

Whether you ride the whole route or just choose a favorite stretch, the Shining Sea Bikeway is one of those Cape escapes that reminds you to slow down, look around, and enjoy the beautiful ride. 💙
